The Larry Scholl Media Blitz…!

Genius Disney storyboard artist and one of my best friends for many years, Larry Scholl, has been highlighted in what could only be called a MEDIA BLITZ these past few weeks. Newspaper and televison coverage galore - Our Larry has become a “local celebrity” of sorts. On January 28th, this article, “It’s A Scholl World,” appeared in The Scene section of “The Sacramento Bee.” (photo to left).
The writer of the article, Dixie Reid, interviews Scholl, who describes the miniature theme park which he designed and constructed in the back yard of his Fair Oaks residence as being “eccentric.” Scholl goes on to tell about the “River Mountain” train ride and “Exotica” tiki room - explaining that he has always loved Disneyland since childhood and from that comes his inspiration. “To me, eccentric is spending $50,000 on a sports car to impress people,” Scholl stated in the article. “I could have gotten one hell of a sports car for this.”

Amongst Scholl’s film and television credits are, “Mulan,” “The Lion King II,” tv series “Kim Possible,” “Tiny Toons,” and storyboards for a few dozen episodes of the Emmy-winning “Robot Chicken.” In the photo to right, Scholl is standing inside the ”River Mountain” ride, located in his own back yard.

Only a few weeks later, Scholl made headlines again! This time, it was handsome and charming KOVR Channel news reporter Dennis Jennihan, who paid a visit with Scholl on February 7th. It was clear that Jennihan was sincerly impressed and enthused about Scholl’s fanciful theme park creations.

The animatronic host of the “Exotica” show, Ricky, has never been more popular! (photo to right) The flamboyant bird sings, “…aloha, aloha means I love you….!”

One of the “performers” which greets those who climb aboard the “Mountain River Train” is this fiddle-playin’ freckled boy…(photo to left)

All kinds of odd characters peek out at those who make the train ride journey, including this wide-eyed baldy peeking out of a barrel…(photo to right).

The train ride culminates when this giant-sized snake lunges right out at train passengers….YIKES! (photo to left).

Other charming creatures, such as this singing deer serenede those who visit the magical train ride…(photo to right).

Scholl appears on television, speaking thoughtfully about his Disney-inspired creations…(photo to left).

This old man sits a-smokin his pipe as he looks on at all those who pass by on the train ride…(photo to right).

Bright and early the next morning, the news crew from Sacramento Channel WC 31 showed up at Scholl’s residence. “We’ve got a backyard theme park in a guy’s back yard for you!” the anchor folks announced enthusiastically…(photo to left).

Hyperactive feature reporter, Alecia, reported live from the Oakhurst Circle Scholl residence. Brimming with over the top enthusiasm, Alecia conducted an inerview with Scholl and took multiple rides aboard the “River Mountain Train.” (photo to right).

Scholl takes questions from reporter Alecia. Intelligent and thoughtful, he explains where the inspiration to build his own miniature theme park developed - a childhood of dreams that has now become reality….(photo to left).

Alecia was having a wonderful time reporting LIVE from Oakhurst Circle as illustrated in the photo to the right….How much excitement can one girl reporter handle sooooo early in the AM? All smiles and exhuberance. It seems as though Larry Scholl has achieved his goal in creating fun, excitement and good spirits….(photo to right).

By the end of the morning it had been a “Good Day Sacramento,” Good day in Fair Oaks, and a good day at the miniature theme park on Oakhurst Circle in Fair Oaks…Thanks to Larry Scholl and his wonderful imagination…!

Happy New Year At Faces Night Club…!

How Do you celebrate the New Year?

Well, I for one go scurrying through my closet (of which I came out of years ago, thank you…) - and whallah! - somehow I put a simple ensemble together, such as the one illustrated to the left…Nothing like creating just a bit of controversy on that Night Of Excitement, huh…?

For those of you who like to stay home watching the excitement on the ol’ television, that is great; however, there are times when it is equally rewarding to “mix” with others at a night club. My partner and I, Mike C., went to Faces…

There we are now, (what happened to the picture, topsy turvy…OMG!); Any way, there we are as we celebrated the coming of 2008 in high spirits!!!

An over the shoulder glance…Yes, looking back at 2007, awaiting with anticipation, enthusiasm and don’t forget OPTIMISM for 2008….

Northern Star

   - By Courtney Love -

and i cry and no one can hear
inhale
the blinded eyes can that see
the chaos
bring the pitiful to me
even though i’m wide awake, i will
and blackest nights and i await for you

it’s cold in here there’s no one left
and i wait for you
and nothing stops it happening
and i knew, i’d cherish all my misery alone
and i wait staring at the northern star
i’m afraid it won’t lead me anywhere
he’s so cold he will ruin the world tonight
all the angels kneel into the northern lights
kneel into the frozen lights
and they paid, i cry and cry for you
ghosts that haunt you with their sorrow
i cried ’cause you were doomed
praying to the wound that swallows
all thats cold and cruel
can you see the trees, charity, and gratitude
they run to the pines
it’s black in here blot out the sun
and run to the pines
our misery runs wild and free
and i knew, the fire and the ashes of his grace
and i wait staring at the northern star
i’m afraid it won’t lead you very far
he’s so cold he will win the world tonight
all the angels knees into the frozen lights
feel their hearts they’re cold and white
and i want you
and blessed are the broken
and i beg you
no loneliness , no misery is worth you
oh tear his heart out cold as ice its mine
and i wait praying to the northern star
i’m afraid it won’t lead you anywhere
he’s so cold raining on the world tonight
all the angels kneeling to the northern lights
and i pray begging to the northern star
i’m afraid it won’t lead you anywhere
he’s so cold he will rule the world tonight
all the angels kneeling to the northern lights
kneeling to the northern lights
feel their hearts they’re cold as ice

Christmas Wonderland In The Enchanted Forrest

Deep in the enchanted forrest of Todd Valley, California, snow fell during the post-midnight hours of late December, leaving this magical vision the day after Christmas…

Snow-flocked trees stood witness to this winter time loveliness…

..Hundred year old trees stood silent while icecycles formed on the furthest portions of their extremities…

A little tree poses silent amidst the crystal white backdrop…

…Briefly, time itself seems to stop while snow falls, leaving a strange, yet beautiful, Otherworld of total crisp cold and silence…the air is fresh in winter time California foothills; for now, all is fine and peaceful…

December 23, 2007 : Tami’s Birthday & Earnie’s Puppet Show At Larry’s House

One of my best friends, Larry Scholl (Disney Animation Studio Storyboard Artist), hosted what turned out to be another memorable event on December 23rd, 2007. The occasion this time was two-fold - a birthday celebration for my sister, Tami, and a Christmas Party. As always, Larry’s Fair Oaks residence, a split level home in the hills of Fair Oaks (where I also live) was a perfect backdrop for such a party.

In this photo (left) one of Larry’s filmmaker guests is showing him the gadgetry of a newly obtained movie camera.

Tami and her boyfriend, Jeff, are admiring the birthday cake presented by our mother, Joni Ernest. (photos to right)

           Happy Birthday,
                  Tami…!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At one point in the evening, Larry introduced the entertainer of the evening, Earnie Fosselius (I hope I spelled it correctly!). Fosselius, whose credits include “Hardware Wars” (1977) and who also worked on “Return Of The Jedi”  (1983), performed a professional comedy puppet show.
Fosselius’ show included puppet look-alikes that poked satire style humor at politicians - Dick Cheney, George Bush, Barbara Bush, Richard Nixon and others. Not only was the show steeped in clever wit and use of hit songs to portray the characters, but Fosselius was responsible for the creation of both the wood-carved puppets and the stage itself. A man of many talents!
The audience included about 25 people (some of which were from as far away as Canada) and others, like the film maker (who captured the show with his camera, photo to left) who were from Sacramento.

An ecclectic group of people (including the members of my family) were on hand, watching the show. Although the program was clearly poking fun (mostly) of Republican politicians, even those present (like my dad) who are conservative found the show uproariously funny. Laughter filled the household and helped make this a PERFECT way to celebrate the Holiday season and my wonderful sister’s birthday!
THANK YOU, EARNIE !!!

Other guests included this young lady from Fair Oaks (photo left)….and another young woman from Canada (photo to bottom right)…

Artist friend, Mike Parlette, spent much of his time cheking out interesting “things” online….

Sarah “The Queen” and one of her children sat in Larry’s living room watching Christmas specials on tv…

By the end of the evening, everyone - including Mr. Lobo and girlfriend “The Queen” - had experienced an evening of seasonal bliss, humor and celebration…

Thank you, Larry Scholl and Earnie Fosselius, for making my sister’s birthday a PERFECT MEMORY!
